a wedding where the bride ran off

Sepideh Salehi, Mohr Portrait 2, 2017
Photograph on wood on Japanese paper

I have decided to leave you
to the empathy of the birds
you are a good reader of these poems
and maybe that will be enough
to save you
maybe not
swallow as many of these poems
as possible
perhaps you will become so heavy
that the birds cannot carry you
to the hungry hatchlings
high up in the nest
__________
everyday
I pillage my life for poems
a poetry viking
raiding my own existence
and I have no mercy
__________
chopped up my name
and tossed it like a salad
replaced the middle name
with a better one
by adding some numbers
and symbols
like a website password
removed the vowels too
ol' jms92%jb that's me
__________
something missing
a bus without a driver
a big lawn and no mower
a wedding where the bride ran off
a truck that never totes a load
this world without you in it
o son how you are missed
