getting it down on paper

__________Â
A knock on the back doorÂ
or a tapping at the window at nightÂ
that’s how poems come to meÂ
and I choose for myselfÂ
if I wish to open up and let them inÂ
-- I always doÂ

Meditation practice isn’t about trying to throw ourselves away and become something better. It’s about befriending who we are already.

MorningÂ
a cool summer breezeÂ
hot black coffee and cold sliced tomatoesÂ
cuban music playing softlyÂ
I am conscious of what a joy it is to be aliveÂ
I don’t believe in any godsÂ
and yet I want to thank someoneÂ
so thank you

When your heart is ready, peace will come looking for you.Â

Things happenÂ
a birth hereÂ
a death thereÂ
a crop is planted in one seasonÂ
harvested and gleaned in the nextÂ
here in the Sacramento ValleyÂ
it is summerÂ
the growing seasonÂ
the crops thriveÂ
up in the Sierra NevadaÂ
our mountains to the eastÂ
the snow melt fills the riversÂ
rushing down to us in flat lands belowÂ
things happenÂ
I try to get them down on paperÂ
before they are dead and gone
