long enough that my eyes melted

jlj, my lemon tree
true northÂ
where is true north from hereÂ
anyoneÂ
because the earth is a giant boxÂ
where we hide ugly thingsÂ
because the earth is also a tiny roomÂ
where our skin is blueÂ
we are ripeÂ
with contradictionsÂ
there are footprints hereÂ
that cannot be explained by the policeÂ
there is a bear skin rug on the floorÂ
and the constitution saysÂ
we have the right to bear armsÂ
we are seeking true northÂ
and the priests are no helpÂ
if this journey is to have any real meaningÂ
we need to get something rightÂ
true northÂ
the earth definedÂ
an understanding of the footprintsÂ
the vengeance of the bearsÂ
somethingÂ
anythingÂ
we'll settle for true northÂ
----
a spider on my bathroom wallÂ
looks like it is watching meÂ
but that could easily be my absurd egoÂ
where I live
one is never far from a spiderÂ
once I was an arachnophobe
now I am used to themÂ
coming in for a close lookÂ
I see that the spiderÂ
is really a handsome beastÂ
"the room is yours"Â
I say as I leave
----
What a pleasure it is to wake up and realize that there is nothing in life worthy of my fear.

everything is equal in the emptiness of the voidÂ
ocean beach  san francisco  some years agoÂ
or was it yesterday  it's all the sameÂ
a rare clear day ending  how long did i stand thereÂ
watching the sun slide down into the wildnessÂ
of the pacific  long enough that my eyes meltedÂ
and my thoughts melted  and I left my body behindÂ
rising up as the sun went down  one being looseÂ
in this universe  red flames against dark blue waterÂ
everything is equal in the emptiness of the voidÂ

So long as little children are allowed to suffer, there is no true love in this world.Â
