what we love and believe

K. Wayne Thornley
blue sky in the morningÂ
looking up into fresh airÂ
I am two kinds of a manÂ
sunrise and duskÂ
or light and darkÂ
maybe right and wrongÂ
purple sky in the eveningÂ
looking up into fresh airÂ
the choices I've madeÂ
or failed to makeÂ
the measure of a human lifeÂ
as the darkness growsÂ
as the darkness growsÂ
-
sitting in a circle  but no fireÂ
this valley burns so easily nowÂ
join hands  pray  dream of waterÂ
joyous rain  the valley's bathÂ
-
they come out of their everyday housesÂ
bearing rifles and pistolsÂ
they exhale death with every breathÂ
hatred is their heartbeat and nameÂ
judgment is the food that they eatÂ
and they want us deadÂ
because of what we love and believeÂ
peopleÂ
let love ruleÂ
let kindness ruleÂ
-
Restraint and patience. Wisdom and diligence. Kindness and generosity. May I seek out ways to practice these every day, and be thankful that I can.
