Words carved in stone.

The Onsen Range Seen from Amakusa (1922) Kawase Hasui
if you want me to be your teacher I will
but know this
I do not work for free
the price of my instructions
is your heart and your liver
which I shall eat from the pan
fried and hard while you watch me
and I will not offer a taste to you
settle down
it is time for the first lesson to begin

In the space of no-mind, truth descends like light.

in the fourth and fifth months
the leaves return
reborn
the flowers bud and bloom
who am I
I have no new color for spring
and I have no words worthy
of being carved in stone

Kawase Hasui - Japanese Woodblock
as I write this
it has been nine months
since my son died
I am reminded that
it also took nine months
for him to be born
life
death
sometimes these cycles
and patterns are like a bomb
blowing up in my heart
but sometimes they are a gift
remember that part too
james lee jobe
This too shall pass. It may pass like a kidney stone, but it will pass.
